6 Types of Industrial Storage Racks Ideal for Your Warehouse

Storage space is essential for any successful business. The heavy-duty product manufacturing industry requires a safe and strong storage solution. That is where industrial storage racks and cabinets, as well as heavy-duty storage racks, come into play.

If you have a warehouse, you need a comprehensive range of industrial racking, warehouse shelving and storage systems. Wondering which type of racking system would be the perfect one for you? In this blog, we will take you through 6 types of industrial storage systems that you can have custom-made for your warehouse.

Flow Racking

A flow racking system is an ideal high-density racking system. You put the inventory on the rack on the backside, then pull the inventory from the front side. The inventory would then “flow-through” the racking system. Each level of each lane has a strip of slightly inclined rollers.

Push Back Racking

A push back (also referred to as pushback) racking system is where you load and remove the product from the same side of the racking system. When you add new inventory to the rack, it pushes the current inventory back. And when you remove the inventory, the pallets move forward to the front of the racking system. This system also has a slight incline and uses gravity to maintain order on the racks.

Cantilever Racking

This racking system is specially designed to store long, bulky items or items of varying length — such as pipes, timber, beams, and more. It uses a counterweight to create shelving, with solid steel posts that have horizontal arms extending out at different levels. The racking system allows for a lot of flexibility in design and usage.

Drive-In Racking

Drive-in racking is designed for the storage of homogenous products. It is perfect for last-in, first-out (LIFO) inventory management. It is a high-density storage solution that maximizes available space and height. It accommodates a large number of pallets that are placed so they can slide backwards on a rail — storing them more deeply and creating more space in the warehouse.

Drive-Through Racking

Drive-Through racking (also referred to as drive-thru racking) is perfect for storing perishable or fast-moving items. It is designed for first-in, first-out (FIFO) inventory management. Here, the lift truck can enter through both ends of the system for loading and unloading but could require an additional aisle. This is also a high-density storage system.

Speciality Racks

Some businesses have truly unique applications, and some products require a special racking system — such as boats, tyres, beer/wine kegs, or canned goods. Speciality racking systems can accommodate any of these products to allow for efficient storage. A speciality racking system is specific to a certain task, and it is customized according to specialized requirements.
